MEET SHERRIE ~ Student Midwife Apprentice
I am a wife and mother of four incredible children. My own birth experiences raised many questions in my mind. I couldn’t understand why I felt so vulnerable, fearful and unable to birth the way I wanted. I didn’t know I had options. I felt an obligation to reach out to others like me.
I began my journey into the birth working world in 2009 believing I could help change the alarming number of health disparities especially Women of Color. Like many of today’s midwives, I started as a doula, then growing into a midwife through many hours of schooling and years of hands on learning and training.
I attended Nizhoni Institute of midwifery from 2014 – 2018. I have gained valuable experience learning in hospital birth, home birth and birth center settings.
Some of my certifications include Lactation, CPR, Neonatal Resuscitation, Blood Borne Pathogen, training in Placenta Encapsulation, HIPPA Compliance, and ongoing others. I have had the honor of being trained and mentored by some of the most amazing midwives in California.
Now a Nizhoni graduate, some of you may see me catching babies at births, tending to prenatal and postpartum appointments, serving as an apprenticing midwife as I work toward State Board licensure.
